And The Mobile Phone

Author: Niveditha Subramaniam | 17th Sep, 2009

 The Amazing Miss Shinies
Really wanted to own
An Amazing Shiny Mobile Phone.
(A nice phone who wore dark glasses.)

They walked down, arm in arm
To the local phone store
Whose board said, “Mobiles and more.”
(This was just what they wanted!)

“Cell phones for you, Ma’am?”
A dozen men and women cried.
They all had their hair dyed.
(And wore terrible suits for no reason.)

But the Amazing Miss Shinies
Were feeling rather kind
They almost didn’t mind.
(That humans had no taste, sometimes.)

“An Amazing Shiny Mobile Phone!”
They said, fl ashing their pointy teeth
and kicking their visible feet.
(Fatauntie had gifted them stilletos.)

In their over excitement,
The dozen ran here and there
Throwing phones into the air.
(And sometimes, they forgot to catch
them.)

“GPRS Ma’am! GSM Ma’am!”
Cried a man with a half-blonde beard.
“Tri-Band!” said another, who looked just
as weird.
(The Shinies blinked several times.)

“Latest, Ma’am! Touch screen!”
Shrieked one lady, nearly tripping.
“12 mega-pixel camera, Ma’am!”
(The Shinies blinked some more.)

“Live Action Gaming, Ma’am!”
Said one, grinning widely.
“30,000 free ringtones Ma’am!”
(Even the Shinies knew he was lying.)

“STOP!” said the Shinies,
They couldn’t take it anymore.
This wasn’t what they’d asked for.
(They couldn’t even blink anymore.)

 “Give us back our money!”
Cried one Shiny, overcome with emotion.
“But you didn’t give us any.”
(One lady whispered softly.)

This was absolutely true,
But the Shinies didn’t like it.
So as usual, they threw a fi t.
(“Waaaaaugh!” they cried.)

Half-Blonde Beard cleared his throat.
“My dear Shinies, this was only a test!
And you’ve put our fears to rest!”
(The Shinies were bamboozled – what did he
mean?)

“Who else would choose
an Amazing Shiny Phone
over one with 30,000 free ringtones!”
(He patted their round heads, affectionately.)

“Come in, Amazing Shiny Phone!”
He clapped his hands, smartly.
The Shinies whistled expertly.
(They couldn’t wait to see it!)

And then it walked in slowly,
On its invisible feet
And smiled at the two shyly.
(Refusing to remove its dark glasses!)
