The Amazing Miss Shinies liked
Jumping off rooftops at night.
It made their heads light.
(Do you remember?)
When suddenly, one noticed
A large silver spider
Right beside her.
(She’d jumped off the moon.)
“We’re the Shinies,” they cried.
“Are you Incy-Wincy?”
“Not a bit,” she replied.
(She was Fanchee Mitch Nanchee.)
With a silver smile, she began,
“I’d like to weave an Amazing Shiny web!”
Adjusting her many spectacles with élan.
(Spiders have eight eyes. Really.)
“Theme webs are currently very in!”
She said, fl ipping a little notebook.
“When do you think we can begin?”
(On the side, she chewed a fly.)
And while the Shinies thought,
She cried, “AH, DELICIOUS, MY PRECIOUS.”
And then, “AH, PRECIOUS, MY DELICIOUS.”
(Though the fl y didn’t think so.)
The Shinies immediately agreed.
Fanchee Mitch Nanchee had taste
Which would be a shame to waste.
(So they shooks legs on it.)
On the appointed date,
The Shinies were ready
But Nanchee was late.
(Optician’s appointment, she
complained.)
On her shiny, silver threads
Fanchee Mitch Nanchee glided across
Spiralling, she wove Shiny heads.
(And she wasn’t a bit dizzy.)
“Our teeth look extra pointy!”
The Shinies said, approvingly.
“And our skirts are extra edgy!”
(“It’s a Nanchee,” the spider said.)
And as she gave fi nishing touches,
One cried, “It has PIZZAZZ!”
Said the other, “And PANACHE!”
(And other fancy words like that.)
Finally, Mitch Nanchee was done!
Tired, she slid down a silver line
Hoping everything would be fine.
(Master weavers get nervous, too.)
Nanchee and the Shinies
Put their heads to one side.
Now, all jokes aside,
(Wasn’t there something missing?)
They were briefly sad
But got their reply
In the form of a fly.
(Which got stuck in the web.)
“Oooooooooooh, that’s right,”
Mitch Nanchee exclaimed,
“I haven’t had a bite!”
(She did look famished.)
She patted their Shiny heads,
“AH, DELICIOUS, MY PRECIOUS.
AH, PRECIOUS, MY DELICIOUS.”
(Meanwhile, the little fl y got away.)
