Chandamama - About Us

Chandamama was conceptualised by legendary filmmakers B. Nagi Reddi and his friend Chakrapani. Nagi Reddi became the publisher and Chakrapani the editor. Their reason for launching Chandamama was to familiarise the post-Independence generation with Indian tradition, folklore, mythology and history in the form of stories. That 60-year history of story-telling and educating young minds today rests with Viswanath Reddi, Nagi Reddi's son, who has been editing Chandamama since 1975.

Chandamama has recently been acquired by the Bombay-based Geodesic . Incorporated in 1999, Geodesic is a publicly traded company with offices in the US, UK, Sweden and Hong Kong. The company has developed the popular universal instant messaging system Mundu (www.mundu.com). The Mundu products successfully combine AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. Over six million users worldwide communicate through the various mundu products. Geodesic has been profitable from its first year of operations. Recently the company was awarded the Red Herring Small Cap 100 award… the only Indian company to be included in the Red Herring Small Cap 100 list.

Post the acquisition Chandamama is on a major expansion drive. The print product is being re-launched and aggressively promoted across India and overseas. An online portal that will be the "one safe place for your child" is under development. Chandamama is also foraying into films and video production with its bank of over 15,000 exclusive stories. Interactive books and CDs are also part of Chandamama's efforts to reach out, educate and entertain today's young minds.
