Make Your Own Refrigerator Magnet!

Author: Radhika Meganathan | 18th Apr, 2008

Hi guys, we're back! This week, we are going to work on creating a refrigerator magnet. You know, those cute magnets you can stick on the fridge door? Yep, the very same ones.  You can use them to post items such as shopping lists or notes on a refrigerator, or simply as decoration.

To make these, you need:

  • Medium-thick cardboard
  • Small button or square magnets
  • Sharp scissors
  • Glue / Fevistick
  • Your favourite photos

Indu: The way to do it is like this - cut out the photo to the size you want. Use craft glue to attach the picture to a piece of heavy cardboard.

Chandu: Yeah, then cut the cardboard to the same size and shape as the picture. Glue a magnet to the back of the picture. Don't touch! Let the glue dry completely.

Indu: If you want to try another method, use peel-and-stick type magnets. Stick the picture to the magnet and then cut the shape out with scissors.

Chandu: You can use any picture, not just photos. Indu here is crazy about cutting pictures from magazines or old calendars, and making them into magnets.

Indu: Ha, so what? They make nice collage magnets. I also like to have inspirational quotes on my magnets.

Chandu: Yeah, Ms. Goody-two-shoes!

Indu: While cutting the photo, use a sharp scissor. Only then will you get good edges. You can also make fancy edges with shape-cutting craft scissors!

Chandu: See how easy it is! You can now create magnets for yourself or as gifts for your friends.
